According to World Health Organization, gender equity in healthcare access entails that men and women have the same conditions to fully exercise their rights and achieve health; in cancer, as in other diseases, cultural practices generate unequal treatment for women, men, and gender-diverse individuals. Additionally, in the context of Leon—a city with a relatively high level of economic development—where issues related to wealth distribution prevail, urban growth has favored peripheral areas and fragmentation, which may exacerbate these inequalities. Therefore, it is essential to ask: What are the gender gaps regarding healthcare access among individuals diagnosed with cancer in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico?
This project is funded by City Cancer Global Challenge and Global Focus on Cancer. It will be developed through 2026 on León, Guanajuato, México: Nairobi, Kenia; and, Tbilisi, Georgia at the same time.
México team is lead by GIDU and have the participation of researchers from División de Ciencias de la Salud, Universidad de Guanajuato, Campus León and Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública-México.
